Suns acquire Chris Paul

The NBA’s trade season kicked off with a blast on Monday when the Phoenix Suns acquired Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Suns had been rumored to be interested in Paul since late October, but as the days counted towards November any deal seemed off. But within minutes of being reported that the two teams where talking on Twitter by both Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal was done.

The Thunder acquire Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre, Jalen Lecque, Ty Jerome, and a future first-round draft pick. The Suns also get forward Abdel Nader from the Thunder.

The Suns get to pair Paul with Devin Booker in their backcourt to try and make a run in the western conference. The Suns finished the NBA bubble 8-0 and narrowly missed the play in game. Now the Suns are a favorite to make the playoffs. The Suns made sure that they did not erode any of their cap space in the trade, which should give them around 15 mill

The Thunder meanwhile continue their collecting of first-round draft picks. Between the 2020 and 2026 drafts, the Thunder will have 17 first-round picks. The Thunder have 2 firsts in Wednesdays upcoming draft after acquiring Danny Green and the 28th pick from the Lakers.

As the Thunder continue their rebuild, it is likely that they move several of these veterans that they have recently acquired. The Thunder will look to add to their plethora of picks and add some young players. There is a possibility that the Thunder could keep Lecque and Jerome going into the 2021 season.
