Hawks expected to move the 6th pick

The Atlanta Hawks have had discussions with several other NBA teams to try and move the 6th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Hawks are in search of a veteran star or semi star to pair with their young superstar Trae Young.

The Hawks finished last season 20-47 and were not invited to the Orlando Bubble. Even if they had been invited to the bubble it is unlikely the Hawks would have had any success, the team is in turmoil and needs a change. They do not feel that another top pick will help with this change.

The Hawks acquired Clint Capela at the deadline last season from Houston, but Capela has yet to see action with the young Hawks. His 60 millionish dollar contract is now a hindrance for the Hawks, who want to compete now. Capela does not seem interested in joining the Hawks. The Hawks will try and pair Capela with the 6th pick to acquire another star.

The Hawks main target is Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert. Gobert had a very public falling out with the Jazz other star Donovan Mitchell following both Mitchell and Gobert contracting Coronavirus.

The Hawks could offer the Jazz the 6th pick, Capela, and either John Collins or Cam Reddish for Gobert and the 23rd pick.

This would give the Jazz some much needed cap relief as well as some young pieces to put with Donovan Mitchell and would keep the Jazz competitive.

The Jazz, however, have reportedly rebuked the Hawks offers for Gobert.
